IN THIS SECOND set of SKIES, you'll notice more volatile phenomena. There are moments of beauty and calm, but suddenly rain, and what you could only call 'deluges' suddenly appear, preceding the months in which we saw catastrophic flooding across most continents. Hazy, bright orange and rose-colored skies came out in artwork in the months before the Canadian wild fires of 2023 tinged our skies that unforgetable color. Similarly, hurricanes and tornados appeared in these works for the first time in the months before record-setting storms devastated communities around the globe. While these paintings continue to be expressions of what it feels like to have phenomena unfold in your mind, whether you call it ‘inspiration’ or ‘imagination,' the sheer volume and specificity of these images have made it increasingly difficult not to wonder if the things that happen in my mind might be indicative of what might happen outside of it, in the world.
